Paragon Casino Resort Names Jacob Churchman Pastry Chef

Paragon Jacob-ChurchmanMarksville, LA (July 29, 2015) Jacob E. Churchman has been named Pastry Chef at Paragon Casino Resort.

Churchman, a 2012 graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, is a Central Louisiana native. Born and raised in Dry Prong, Louisiana, Churchman grew up in a family full of cooks.. His mother opened a catering company when he was just a child, and the art of preparing and serving food became a way of life for him.

“By the time I was in high school, I figured out I wanted to shift my focus to baking,” Churchman said. He apprenticed during those years in Alexandria at Atwood’s Bakery under both Mark and Ed Atwood, two of only 56 Certified Master Bakers at that time. “I knew there was only one college for me, and I left for New York and the Culinary Institute of America just a few days after I graduated from high school. It was the best decision I ever made.”

Immediately after graduating from the Culinary Institute, Churchman went to work for Holland America Cruise Lines as a chef, and host of a TV cooking show. He accepted the job as pastry chef at Paragon earlier this year, and returned home to Central Louisiana.

“We’re looking forward to Jacob’s contributions to the Paragon dining experience,” said Scott Clark, Paragon’s Director of Food and Beverage. “He’s only been here a short time, and guests are already raving about the delicious desserts he’s introduced to our menus.”
