Evans was four years old when she began singing in her family’s band. At 16, she performed at a local nightclub near her hometown of New Franklin, Mo. A musician at heart, Evans decided to relocate to Nashville, Tennessee in 1992 where she could devote her time to pursuing her country music career. In 1996, her hard work and dedication paid off when she was signed to RCA Records. Over the next year, she turned her focus to perfecting her debut album “Three Chords and the Truth” which was released in 1997.

In 1998, Evans followed up with her sophomore album titled “No Place That Far” and one year later with “Born to Fly,” which earned her a Top Ten spot on the Country Bill Board Charts. In addition, “Born to Fly” became her first album to receive a platinum rating by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album also produced hit singles, including the title track, which became her first number one hit. In 2001, Evans was the most-nominated artist at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards with seven nominations overall. She won her first CMA Award when “Born to Fly” won Video of the Year.

Evans released her fifth album, “Real Fine Place” in 2005. The album’s first single, the title track, reached Number One on the Country Charts as well as reaching the Pop Top 40 at Number 38. The album sold 130,000 copies within its first week, becoming her first album to reach the Number One spot on the Top Country Albums Chart. It was also her most successful album on the Billboard 200 reaching Number Three. In 2006, the Academy of Country Music (ACM) announced Evans as the “Female Vocalist of the Year.” Other hit singles by Evans were “As If,” “Backseat of a Greyhound Bus,” “Perfect,” “Suds in the Buckets,” and “To be Happy.” Evans co-wrote a book, The Sweet By and By, which was released in 2010.
